PhotoLabs is your premier provider of high-end digital imaging
services. We specialize in preparing graphics for a wide
variety of print and display applications.

The premier photographic digital
imaging device located at our Ardsley production
facility is the CSI (now
OCE) LightJet 5000, which uses a 50" roll
of photographic paper (or Duratrans film for
backlighting) and makes prints up to 48" x
96". The LightJet uses technology gained from
satellite imaging systems to enhance sharpness. In
fact, much of NASA's satellite imaging equipment was
made by CSI. Prints imaged on the LightJet are
sharper than those imaged on similar devices, like
the Lambda and Kodak Pegasus laser-printers, and are
also sharper than dye sublimation and inkjet prints.
The LightJet 5000 is essentially a
giant film recorder and images at over 4,000 lines
per inch in 36-bit color space (equivalent to 68
billion colors). It has an amazing capacity to
enlarge when imaging - a quality scan file which has
been saved at 300 dpi at 16" x 20", for
instance, can be enlarged to 32" x 40"
without loosing any clarity at all. With a maximum
imaging area of 48" x 96" you can make
some very large photographs, up to mural size, and
the prints are absolutely stunning! With LightJet
laser imaging the results are always consistent in
both color and density and there is no fall-off of
exposure to the corners as in traditional enlarging.
Truly the 21st Century enlarger, the LightJet
5000 makes photographic prints that are sharper than
traditionally made photographs. Its sophisticated
ability to sharpen while imaging allows you to work
at lower resolutions (150 - 200 dpi) and still get
the sharpest results so you can make larger
photographs with the same scans.
